TEAM CMOM Will Bring Therapeutic Art Workshops To Children Undergoing Cancer Treatment At Memorial Sloane Kettering – Donate Today!

CMOM has been chosen for the fourth year in a row by New York Road Runners to be an official participating charity at the ING NYC Marathon. In 2011, Team CMOM raised almost $18,000 in support of our mission to educate and inspire children and families from New York City and beyond. This year, CMOM Board Member Mark Adkins will be holding the CMOM banner and running the famous race to raise funds specifically for his favorite CMOM outreach program: Hospital Arts Outreach at Memorial Sloane-Kettering.

“This program provides weekly art workshops — known in the Hospital as "CMOM Day" — for children undergoing cancer treatments. The total annual cost to fund this program is $7000, and so my marathon fundraising goal is to pay for the entire program for one year!”– Mark

Duke Ellington: Big Band Instrument Making, 10:00am

All ages

10am - 4:45pm
Edward “Duke” Ellington was not only a talented jazz performer, but also a composer and the conductor of his own Big Band. Many of the famous pieces of jazz we know today – known as ‘standards’ – were written by Duke for his band, and for the specific talents of his musicians. Inspired by the individual style of these talented performers, build your own musical instruments similar to the ones you hear in Duke Ellington’s music.
This program is part of our "Jazzed!: The Changing Beat of 125th Street" exhibit and takes place on the lower level.
