The Children’s Museum of Manhattan’s (CMOM’s) philosophy is to engage the Whole Child by connecting the arts, language, science, math and the Humanities — as well as the mind, heart, body and spirit.
CMOM’s mission is to transform the lives of children and families through extraordinary learning environments and innovative educational programs. From its humble beginnings in a neighborhood storefront in 1973, CMOM has grown to a 38,000 square-foot non-profit learning facility with international reputation for excellence, and has become a destination for visitors from around the world.
Each year CMOM serves more than 325,000 people, including children who visit CMOM as part of school groups and thousands of children through our off-site outreach programs throughout New York City. These programs serve families from at-risk communities in all five boroughs through partnerships with community-based organizations, schools, libraries, shelters and hospitals.
For more than thirty years, CMOM’s innovative environments, created by a team of exhibit designers and education specialists, have been winning awards and providing a stimulating, unique and hands-on atmosphere for learning, discovering new ideas and stretching the imagination CMOM’s enrollment classes are designed to address the multiple ways children learn and to help parents understand and support their child’s development.
