Celebrate Diwali, the Indian festival of Lights. Diwali is India’s biggest and most important holiday of the year. It coincides with the Hindu New Year and celebrates new beginnings and the triumph of good over evil and light over darkness. Join us and our friends from The Culture Tree for a day of festivities exploring Indian Arts and this special holiday.

Storytelling: Bhakti Mathur’s Amma, Tell Me About Diwali!
“Amme Tell Me” is a series of children’s books that introduces major Hindu festivals and figures. Enjoy the rhyming and vivid colors as Museum Educators share Bhakti Mathur book, Amma, Tell Me About Diwali!

Culinary Workshop: Making Mithai with Chef Anu Sehgal
What is Diwali without sweets? Sweets or Mithai form an integral part in the celebration of Diwali. Chef Anu Sehgal will show you how to prepare some of these sweets in this interactive workshop. Tastings provided!

Block Printing Workshop
India has been renowned for its printed and dyed cotton cloth and the creative processes. In this segment Designer Shaazma Husain, an Educator of The Culture Tree will help you print and create your own textile using traditional Indian designs.

Bollywood Dance with Megha Sariya
Bollywood dance is a beautiful blend of many Indian dance styles: classical, folk and also R&B and hip hop. Head Dance Teacher of The Culture Tree, Megha, will show you how to dance to melodious Indian movie music and songs.
