Fall 2010 Classes

Classes for 3-4 year olds help children make science investigation and art exploration part of everyday learning. This hands-on interactive curriculum introduces classroom skills including making transitions, listening, observing, working together and developting a lifetime love of learning. Classes for 4-7 year olds develop critical thinking skills in science, art and literacy through applied learning, encouraging children to have confidence in their ability to test, try, experiment and be proud of their accomplishments as scientists, artists and authors with a great future ahead of them.

NEW! Rainforest Aventura Tropical with Ballet Hispanico
Ages 3-4 years
In partnership with Ballet Hispanico, CMOM is offering a special science and dance program. This hybrid class will take place in the studios at Ballet Hispanico and in CMOM's own Adventures with Dora and Diego. Children will explore the exotic animals and flora of the rainforest through interactive stories, art projects, science experiments and dance.

NEW! The Wizard of Oz Theater Enrollment Class
Ages 6 and up
Get into the act! Roar like Cowardly Lion! Cackle like Wicked Witch! Children put a unique spin on their favorite characters from The Wizard of Oz by creating costume pieces, learning improvisation techniques and actors movement exercises. Each class involves exclusive exploration in The Wizard of Oz.

Art Adventures
Ages 3-4 years
Your child will dribble, scribble, splatter and sculpt as they explore the creative process of art through a variety of materials, techniques and lots of imagination!

Sense-ational Science
Ages 3-4 years
See, smell, taste, listen and touch! Explore science as your child predicts, experiments, observes and shares their discoveries.

Kooky Creations
Ages 4-5 years
Twist shapes out of wire, build wood structures and craft modern designs while exploring line, shape, color, texture and other art and architecture themes through sculpture.

Acting and Animals
Ages 4-5 years
Act like an animal in this introduction to the performing arts. Learn about the rainforest, the Arctic and the American West; then paint backdrops, build props and make masks for an original production in the wild kingdom.

Space Oddities
Ages 4-5 years
Discover why a star twinkles, a planet turns, why the sky is blue or a black hole dark, as your child explores space's odd phenomena in this investigation of the universe through geology, geography and astronomy.

NEW! Science Sampler
Ages 4-7 years
Explore how the world works through geography, botany, biology and more in this science sampler that encourages learning through hands-on experiments, examining live specimen, testing prototypes and having lots of fun!

NEW! Create and Curate: A Portfolio Presentation
Ages 6 and up
Explore the inspirational art of five American masters who use a variety of materials and techniques to draw, sculpt, paint and collage. Create and Curate is taught by CMOM professional artists/educators and includes a visit from a guest artist and a portfolio of student work for family and friends!

Gross Biology
Ages 6-7
Ever wonder how your body fights germs or what happens when you sleep? Make 'mucus', mix 'blood' and create a 'burp' to find out what goes on inside the body and why.

Thank you for making our 2010 Benefit, honoring Andy Ackerman’s 20 years as Executive Director of CMOM, a huge success! Because of your generosity, we were able to raise $1.2 million to support our exhibitions, programming and outreach into the community. Watch the video shown at our event!
