Parent Workshops

Have CMOM staff meet with your PTA, parent coordinators, or interested parents to explore ways to take creative learning home. All workshops are hands-on and can be scheduled at CMOM or at your site. Come away with ideas about resources throughout the city and how to take better advantage of those in your neighborhood. Alternative workshops are available and can be switched with those recommended below.

Early Learning

Little learners have big ideas.Learn how to build a supportive environment as they stretch their imaginations.

Workshop: Understand how children learn through their senses through a series of messy art projects.

Healthy Living Childhood

Obesity rates continue to rise across the country and families can make a difference. Parents make important choices about what foods are being eaten while still needing to keep a healthy budget.

Art at Home

Art can sometimes seem as if it is something found only in a museum but art is about having a creative eye for details.

Workshop: Experiment with materials that can be found in the home including biodegradable packing materials, disposable take out packages and more to inspire creative use of everyday objects.

Science is everywhere and with just a few key ingredients parents can set up their own “lab” in the kitchen.

Celebrate Easter and paint an egg with a hidden message!
Kindergarten Readiness Skills: Learn descriptive vocabulary; sensory awareness, creative expression, early science skills (cause and effect).
 

Squishy Circuits, 10:00am

Use special food-safe doughs that will act as electricity conductors and insulators! Mold your own simple circuits and experimenting with a variety of electronics! Recipe cards available to take home.

Brainstorm an invention and use littleBits™ electronic blocks to make your idea come to life. Experiment with connecting batteries, light and sound sensors to your invention to see what will happen!

New York Happening: Mixed Media Art Installation, 10:00am

Red Grooms collaborated with a variety of artists, staging events and art installations called “happenings.”  Add to CMOM’s  ongoing mixed media installation / communal “happening”  by creating your own vision of New York using wood pieces, metal and clay.
 

UMIGO Transmedia Games, 11:00am

5 & older

CMOM conducts weekly activities to explore UMIGO, a first-of-its kind transmedia math property which teaches 1st and 2nd grade math skills in a fun and interactive way. UMIGO programs may include music videos, board games challenges and new digital UMIGO Apps

Meet the Maker: Sci-Tech Kids, 11:00am

Biologist, epidemiologist and the president of Sci-Tech Kids Kim Magloire teaches kids about the mechanics behind engineering as they building bridges using Play-Doh and toothpicks.
