CMOM Membership Policy

1. For our children's safety, all adults visiting the Museum may be asked to show valid photo ID at the Admissions Desk - whether or not they are carrying the family Membership Card. All adult caretakers must be listed on the account, as unlisted caretakers may be asked to pay admission.

2. If a member/caregiver is not carrying the family Membership Card, he/she must name the Adult Account Holder (correctly spelling their name as necessary) and show ID matching their own name as listed on that account.

3. Memberships are non-transferable and for the exclusive use of a single household as designated on the Membership Card. All children must permanently reside within the same household. Friends, extended family members and caretakers' children are not included on your membership.

CMOM reserves the right to refuse or terminate a membership on any suspicion -proven or otherwise- that CMOM Membership Policy is being violated.

Jazz Lyric Scramble: Communication through Jazz Songs, 10:00am

Jazz is bigger than the music that started a movement.  Artists and leaders in many areas shaped the path of jazz and the Harlem Renaissance.  Writers like Langston Hughes played with sound and rhythm in their stories and poetry, incorporating syncopation and repetitive phrases.  Discover the ways that writers integrated sound into their writing and create your own unique story using artist biographies and songs from jazz standards and modern hits.
This program is part of our "Jazzed!: The Changing Beat of 125th Street" exhibit and takes place on the lower level.

In The Mood: Painting Musical Emotions, 10:00am

All ages

10am - 4:45pm
Families will be inspired to create artwork by the emotions felt when listening to Jazz. Discover what creates the melancholy mood in Billie Holiday’s voice, or the cheerful sound of Duke Ellington’s Big Band. Explore how your mood is affected by musical elements such as key, melody, harmony and tempo, using a piece of historic sheet music as your canvas.
This program is part of our "Jazzed!: The Changing Beat of 125th Street" exhibit and takes place on the lower level.

Thinking Like a Composer (Demo) , 11:00am

Music is made up of notes of different pitches, from low to high. An important characteristic of jazz music is that these notes are arranged in unusual rhythms. Examine a historic score sheet by composers such as Duke Ellington and Mary Lou Williams. Then match the sounds that you hear with notes on the paper and create your own score.
