Celebrate National Hispanic Heritage Month at the Children’s Museum! Join us in recognizing Latinx Americans’ contributions to art and culture. Smell and taste the variety of colorful vegetables and herbs used to create sofrito—a staple in Puerto Rican and other Latino dishes and hear the story of Latin jazz composer Tito Puente, the Mambo King. Meet cartoonist Ivan Velez to create your own fantastical comic book characters and learn Afro-Colombian and Indigenous dances from Colombia dancer Melissa Escano.

Sofrito Remix!
Smell and taste the variety of colorful vegetables and herbs used to create sofrito—a staple in Puerto Rican and other Latino dishes. Use it to season stews, sauces, rice, and more. Take home your own sample of sofrito and enjoy other delicious bites in this hands-on workshop.

Dancer Melissa Escano, a Colombian native, shares the rhythm of Mapale and Bullerengue—Afro-Colombian and Indigenous dances from Colombia. Through performance and interactive dance workshop get a taste of Colombia’s rich culture.
