Barnyard

Session 1: Barnyard Banter

In Barnyard Banter by Denise Fleming, see how onomatopoeia can be used to encourage your children to more comfortably communicate.

April 12 — Families will learn the importance of sound-making, mimicking and mirroring, and will participate in games and activities to recognize and replicate animal sounds using our voices and bodies.

April 26 (at CMOM) — Families will sing songs, participate in music-making activities, and make musical instruments to encourage sound-making and language production.

Bark George

Session 2: Bark George

In Bark George by Jules Feiffer, children will learn the importance of trial-and-error and be encouraged to never give up through silly sounds and words.

May 3 — Families will encourage their child’s ability to communicate using sounds and words through dramatic play, sensory activities, and puppet-making.

May 10 — Families will work together and communicate ideas through collaborative art-making by creating a community mural.

Dancing Feet

Session 3: Dancing Feet

In Dancing Feet by Lindsey Craig, families will “STOMP” and “SLITHER” their way through the story of animals and their footprints — or paw prints!

May 17 (at CMOM) — Families will exercise their motor skills through games and activities, using our bodies to replicate animal movements, and creating a collaborative piece with their own footprints.

May 24 — Families will practice making movement a foundation for an active lifestyle through imaginative and dramatic play activities.

Wokka Wokka

Session 4: How Do You Wokka-Wokka?

In How Do You Wokka-Wokka? by Elizabeth Bluemle, children will learn how dance is a beautiful and creative form of self-expression.

May 31 — Families will exercise self-expression and support family bonding through creative movement and dance.

June 7 (at CMOM) — Families will put together all that they’ve learned by exploring sound and movement in our farewell session.

The program is designed for children and their parents/caregivers, so please be sure that you can attend the workshops you register for.
