It is with great sadness that we note the recent passing of Mark Adkins, a dear friend to the Children’s Museum of Manhattan (CMOM). Mark served on the Museum’s Board of Directors since 2008 and as Board Secretary and Chair of the Governance Committee since 2011. He passed away on May 10.
In honor of Mark’s efforts to do good in the world through his thoughtful advice, his generous spirit, his unwavering sense of fairness, and his great sense of fun, the Board of Directors has established the Mark Adkins Memorial Fund for the Arts. On June 7, the Museum will dedicate an art studio in Mark’s name at the opening of a new exhibition, Art, Artists and You. This is an especially appropriate remembrance of Mark given his deep love for his wife, Wendy, an arts educator, and for his sons, Jakob and Rylan, who regularly enjoyed programs at CMOM.
A permanent art space in his name will also be dedicated in the Museum’s new building at 361 Central Park West. We will miss Mark deeply but will carry on his legacy with good deeds for others.
