To help meet the many challenges that parents and caregivers of young children are facing amid the pandemic, the Children’s Museum of Manhattan (CMOM) has launched Parenting in Place, a new online resource providing research, expert tips, and insights to address key topics and questions related to parenting and that support them as they help their children grow and learn during the COVID-19 crisis. The debut follows the museum’s successful March launch of CMOM at Home, a series of fun, educational, and engaging daily digital activities for quarantined families.

Featuring a series of must-watch, short videos, CMOM Parenting in Place is designed to help parents and caregivers navigate the new normal of parenting as well as relax and give themselves time to recharge, rethink and reconnect. CMOM Parenting in Place will deliver trusted advice and tips from CMOM partner experts in child development, psychology, health, and more across a variety of topics including:

How to balance working from home and keeping young children engaged with less stress for parents
How much screen time is too much
Is there a good way to discuss COVID-19 with children that isn’t too scary
Am I doing the right thing for my children right now
How to handle your own emotions, anxieties and fears – giving yourself permission to feel
Simple ways to learn a new skill like journaling, meditating or even creating a calming home office space.

The first expert will be CMOM advisor Dr. Kathy Hirsh-Pasek, Professor of Psychology at Temple University and Senior Fellow at Brookings Institute. Upcoming CMOM partner experts will include Ellen Galinsky, Chief Science Officer, Bezos Family Foundation; and Dr. Tovah Klein, Director, Barnard Toddler Center for Child Development and Associate Professor of Psychology.

“Parenting in Place grew from CMOM at Home, which focuses on activities for children that families can do together at home. Parents of young children need support, too, and this program will help provide them with guidance and reassurances that they are doing their best for their children,” said Leslie Bushara, deputy director for education and exhibitions at the Children’s Museum of Manhattan.
